The crash happened about 10:30 this morning when the vehicle was clipped by another while going through the intersection. Witnesses say a Jeep Patriot was hit on the passenger side, flipped into the air and landed on its roof beside Features Restaurant. Police say the female driver of the Jeep had her seatbelt on and suffered only minor injuries. She was treated at hospital and released. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured. He was charged with failing to stop for a red light. Rather, local police want to identify the two good Samaritans who pulled two men out of a burning tractor trailer on Highway 8 earlier this week. The accident happened near Road 145 Tuesday afternoon. They pulled the two Brampton men, who were pinned inside the smouldering truck, to safety then left anonymously when paramedics arrived. Police would like to thank them for their help. They could even be eligible for bravery medals. The accident happened on the Oxford-Perth County Line west of Tavistock. Forty-year old Paul McIlroy of Stratford was killed when his vehicle hit a tree after travelling through the "T" intersection and ending up in the south ditch. The collision is still under investigation. The tactic is required to control the mosquito population and reduce the spread of West Nile Virus. The Health Unit will be larvaciding catch basins in St. Marys and Stratford. The PDHU encourages people to clean up standing water around the home once a week to help control the mosquito population. People should also apply insect repellent when outside and cover up with light-coloured clothing to repel the insects. It was on July 16th that a lone male driving a stolen pickup truck eluded police after am early morning pursuit in and around Blyth. He abandoned the truck in a bean field and managed to get away on foot. A 24-year old Central Huron man was arrested by the Bracebridge OPP last week after a similar incident in their location. He is facing multiple charges in that jurisdiction including flight from police, driving while disqualified and breach of probation. He will be brought to Huron County after those charges are dealt with. Montreal Man Arrested In Goderich Phone Scam http://www.cjcsradio.com/news/newsitem.php?id=12033 Thu, 29 Jul 2010 15:39:24 GMT Montreal-area police have arrested a suspect in connection with a phone scam targeting unsuspecting seniors, including one in Goderich. On July 14th, a 72-year old Goderich woman fell victim to a phone scam from a woman claiming to be her daughter. The caller said she was in Montreal and needed some financial help after being in a car crash. At that point a man came on the phone, said he was a lawyer in Montreal and had taken on the case. He advised the victim to send $5,000 by Western Union to repair the car and in addition he would look after the case as the victim's daughter blew over the legal limit for alcohol. The woman did as asked, only to find out later she was duped. Police in Longueil, Quebec have arrested a 26-year old Montreal man on two counts of fraud. At this time, no funds have been recovered. Montana wildlife officials say one person was killed when the animal attacked a campground north of Yellowstone National Park early Wednesday morning. Fifty-eight-year-old Deb Freele woke up to find a bear chewing on her arm. She had the presence of mind to 'play dead' and wildlife officials that decision likely saved her life. She suffered multiple bite marks on her left arm, which was broken in the 40 second attack. Her husband was asleep in a nearby tent and didn't wake up until it was over. Stratford Gets Some Federal Gas Tax Money http://www.cjcsradio.com/news/newsitem.php?id=12023 Wed, 28 Jul 2010 15:39:47 GMT The city of Stratford has received a gas tax injection from the Federal government. Perth-Wellington Conservative MP Gary Schellenberger and Stratford Mayor Dan Mathieson announced $575,000this morning for two projects. The first project is already done - the parking lot just west of the Festival Bridge on Lakeside drive. The area was repaved and curbs and parking spaces were added. The rest of the money is going to upgrades for Gibb Road.
