Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off in Stratford

The City of Stratford and the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) have teamed up with the Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program to install upgrades at Stratford's Hazardous Waste Collection Area.

The project has allowed Stratford to retrofit the existing facilities within the landfill site.

Local residents can drop off their Hazardous Waste tomorrow from 8:00am – 5:00pm and Saturday from 9:00am – Noon at the Stratford Landfill.

Schellenberger Votes Against Reopening Abortion Debate

Conservative MP Stephen Woodworth's pro-life bill was soundly defeated in the House of Commons and revealed a big divide in the government caucus on the abortion issue.

The bill called on Parliament to study the definition of a human being.

Ten federal cabinet ministers voted in favour of the bill including the Minister Responsible for Status of Women Rona Ambrose.

Perth-Wellington MP Gary Schellenberger voted against the proposed legislation along with Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

The bill was defeated 203-to-91.

Taking Steps Against Breast Cancer

Mitchell and St Marys will be Taking Steps Against Breast Cancer this weekend.

Both towns will be holding their own events to raise funds in the battle against the illness.

To mix things up, Tracy Piett from the Canadian Cancer Society says there's something new happening in Mitchell this year.

Over in St Marys, the annual breakfast is happening as usual.

It's taking place at the Creamery starting at 8:00am.

Admission is ten dollars.

Arlene Dickinson Addresses Rotary Club of Stratford

The Rotary Club of Stratford celebrated its 90th anniversary in style yesterday.

Over 330 people were at the Arden Park Hotel for dinner followed by a speech from one of Canada's most beloved CEOs.

Arlene Dickinson wowed the audience with her rags-to-riches life story and multiple jokes made at the expense of fellow Dragons' Den star Kevin O'Leary.

The Rotary Club also announced a $2,500 scholarship available to students attending the University of Waterloo Stratford Campus.

Preference will be given to local students attending the campus.

Stratford Cullitons face Caledonia for the First Time this Weekend

The Cullitons face a new team tomorrow night at the William Allman Arena.

Stratford will get its first look at the Caledonia Corvairs in Friday night hockey.

The puck drops at 7:30pm.

1240 CJCS will carry tomorrow night's game live beginning at 7:25pm.

Elsewhere tomorrow night, the St Marys Lincolns host LaSalle and Listowel welcomes the Cambridge Winterhawks.

In Junior C action; The Mitchell Hawks will host the Mount Forest Patriots at the Mitchell Arena.

The Tavistock Braves host Burford.

Both contests begin at 7:30pm tomorrow night.
