OPP Nab Dangerous Drivers During Road Safety Week

E-mail Print PDF

It's "Canada Road Safety Week" and the OPP is stepping up traffic law enforcement.

Police in Perth County have already nabbed a few dangerous drivers.

All three were caught on Wednesday.

That evening a 20-year-old New Hamburg man was caught doing 154 km/h in an 80 km/h zone east of Listowel.

Later near Kirkton an officer caught another speed demon, a 28-year-old man from St. Marys, who was driving 70km/h over the limit.

Then around 10:00pm that night a R.I.D.E. checkpoint in Dublin caught a 33-year-old West Perth man with an open bottle of beer.

He failed a breath test and his license was suspended for three days.

The OPP wants to remind drivers that "Canada Road Safety Week" traffic enforcement will continue, and will ramp up with additional officers on Perth County Roads throughout the long weekend.

Local Union Leader Speaks About LCBO Labour Dispute

E-mail Print PDF

The LCBO workers could be on strike by midnight tonight if no contract is reached.

OPSEU and management are currently at the bargaining table trying to hammer out an agreement.

Lori Cheyne is President of OPSEU local 165 and a part-time worker at the LCBO in Tavistock.

She explains that the treatment of casual workers at the liquor store is a major issue in the current negotiations.

Cheyne says it’s also very difficult for part time LCBO workers to get second jobs.

Ontario Finance Minister Charles Sousa says there isn’t any money for increased wages but Cheyne disagrees.

Cheyne remains hopeful that a good contract can be reached without a strike.

A strike would be the first labour stoppage at the LCBO in 87 years.

More information can be found at the OPSEU website.
