E-mail Print PDF

The Salvation Army has been waging a war on poverty in Stratford for 128 years.

The campaign continues this festive season with their annual Kettle Drive.

Donation stations are set up all over Stratford but the fundraising drive is behind this year.

Captain Jason Sabourin says they need the help of local residents in the final push leading up to Christmas.

The Stratford Salvation Army's goal this year is to raise $90,000 to help the poor in our community.

So far, about $40,000 has been collected.

The Stratford Best Western-The Parlour Peewee MD Warriors split their weekend series with Sarnia earning a 3-1 win on Saturday in Stratford on Saturday and 5-3 loss in Sarnia on Sunday.

Liam Taylor, Sam Turner and Sean Petrie found the score sheet on Saturday with Jordan Tessmer picking up the lone assist.

Jeremy Hill got the nod in net making some solid saves to earn the victory.

Jacob Taylor and Aaron Skinner had strong games defensively.

In a penalty filled affair on Sunday, the Warriors found themselves playing a man short for a significant part of the game making it difficult to establish an attack.

That being said they managed to mount a comeback late but came up short.

Turner picked up 2 more goals on the weekend while Petrie notched his 2nd of the weekend.

Tyler Anderson, Joey Cassone and Nathan Cook picked up Warrior assists while Declan Rintoul and Riley Higgins played solid at the back end.

Jared James played a strong game in net for Stratford.

Stratford-born superstar Justin Bieber was apparently in the crosshairs of a murder-for-hire plot.

Police in New Mexico say the 18-year-old phenom, along with his bodyguard and two others were targets in the foiled assassination.

But that's all they will confirm.

A New Mexico T-V station reports the plot was foiled after the would-be hit men were arrested last month in Vermont on outstanding warrants before the plan was put in motion.
