Merger Problems at Stratford-Perth Humane Society

E-mail Print PDF

It seemed like a harmonious merger between likeminded organizations this past summer.

Now, tensions and problems are pawing their way to the surface at the Stratford Perth Humane Society.

The former OPSCA thought it had merged with the Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society on July 11th.

As Elspeth MacDonald from the Stratford Perth branch explains, it turns out the deal was bit different than originally perceived.

The manager and the animal care supervisor at the Stratford Perth Human Society have both resigned since the takeover due to "interference from staff" in Kichener Waterloo.

MacDonald says that a couple weeks ago, a staff member from KW decreed that 21 cats were to be euthanized despite assurances from a veterinarian that the animals could be treated and all while the local manager was absent leading to the current situation.
