Stratford Police Offer Halloween Safety Tips

E-mail Print PDF

The Stratford Police Service wants to remind parents, caregivers, children and motorists that every effort must be made to keep Halloween a safe and enjoyable occasion.

Before the kids hit the streets, it is important that parents be aware of the route that their children plan to follow.

If you are unable to take them out yourself, consider asking another parent, an older sibling or babysitter to do the honours for you.

Although tampering of treats is rare, remind children that they must have their candy inspected by their parents or guardian prior to eating it.

Motorists are reminded to take their time driving during Halloween night and to be mindful of the children walking in the area.

Repairs Begin Next Week on Wildwood Dam

E-mail Print PDF

Repairs to the Wildwood Dam are set to begin next week.

Water levels at Wildwood Reservoir are at their lowest in 25 years to allow for extensive work on Wildwood Dam.

Hydrologists with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) began lowering the reservoir in August of this year.

The reservoir is now low enough to permit repairs on the dam to go ahead.

The project costs $135,000 and is funded 50% by watershed municipalities with the remaining share coming from the Province of Ontario through the Ministry of Natural Resources Water and Erosion Control Infrastructure program.

E-mail Print PDF

The Avon-Maitland School Board says its anti-bullying policies are working.

The board has seen a decrease in the amount of bullying incidents over the last few years.

The measures in place include a 24 hour a day help line that students are made well aware of, and the board surveys students to keep track of where, when and how often bullying occurs.

All schools in the board also produce a mandatory action plan to help deal with the problem.
