Second John Deere Gator Stolen

The OPP is investigating the theft of a second John Deere Gator.

Officers were called to a rural property on Road 140, southwest of Sebringville on Sunday.

Police found that sometime Saturday night a culprit or culprits entered an unlocked drive shed on the property, found the keys to the Gator and made off with it, heading north on Road 140.

This is the second John Deere Gator stolen from West Perth in 3 days. 

ATV and Gator owners are urged to lock their machines and to park them in locked buildings without the keys in the ignition.

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of this machine or having with information about this or other thefts is requested to contact the Perth County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. 

Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.

Intelligent Community Forum Co-Founder in Stratford

Intelligent Community Forum Co-Founder Robert Bell is in Stratford.

His visit is part of the final stage of judging for the competition for the world's Intelligent Community of the Year.

Stratford is one of the top seven finalists for the third year in a row.

Bell will spend the next two days reviewing the efforts that led to Stratford once again being named a finalist.

This year's winner will be announced at the ICF's Annual Summit in New York on June 7th.

Stolen Pickup Crashes into Bakery

A stolen pickup truck ended up in the back of a bakery in Milverton.

The OPP were called to a crash Friday at the corner of Main and Fulton Streets, and found a red Chevy Silverado had been driven into the back of Guenther's Bakery.

The truck was empty when police arrived.

Investigation showed the truck had been stolen earlier in the evening from a home on John Street.

Police searched the area for suspects but found none.

Damage to the truck and building is extensive.

Anyone having information about the theft of the truck or who may have seen the crash is requested to contact the Perth County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Variety of Earth Week Events Planned for Stratford

It's Earth Week, and a variety of events are planned to help make Stratford a little greener.

Students will be planting trees today at the Royal Palisade, and the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is hosting a presentation at the Kiwanis Community Centre Tuesday night at 7:00pm.

The Local Community Food Centre has something special planned Wednesday night as well.

Soils, Seeds and Salsa is set for 7:00pm Wednesday night.  Pre-registration is required.

On Thursday the much anticipated judging of the decorated garbage cans takes place at the Festival Marketplace Mall.

Judging for the popular contest will begin that night at 6:30pm.

Alzheimer Society of Perth County Celebrating 25 years of Service

April 24th marks the 25th anniversary of the Alzheimer Society of Perth County.

The organization will be joined by Canadian author Terry Fallis to celebrate a quarter-century of service.

Fallis, a Leacock Medal winner, will be the guest speaker at a gala dinner at the Stratford Country Club.

The local Alzheimer Society was founded by a group of grassroots volunteers who wanted to educate the public about the disease and support one another on their dementia journey.

In Perth County the Society offers a wide array of services, all at no cost.  Last year it served over 700 clients and is seeing 25 or more new clients every month.

Tickets for the gala, $50 each, are available at the Alzheimer Society Office, 1020 Ontario St., Unit 5, Stratford, or by calling 519-271-1910.
