Gerry Thuss Speaks about Boston Bombings

E-mail Print PDF

As Boston reels from yesterday's bombings, the seven local residents who took part in the marathon are trying to make their way home.

Stratford resident Gerry Thuss was running the last leg of the race when the two explosions rocked the city.

Thuss was very close to the carnage and is still trying to get his head around what happened.

Thuss describes what he saw.

Thuss says the second bomb detonated even closer to his position than the first.

The bombs went off near the finish line. Thuss says this is where families, friends and spectators gather to cheer on the runners as they end the race.

Thuss says his first impulse was to find his wife and daughter who were in the crowd cheering him on.

Police continue their investigation into the Boston Bombings.

The Stratford Best Western-The Parlour Peewee MD Warriors finished the weekend MD tournament undefeated on route to their 2nd straight MD Tier 2 Alliance championship. The Warriors opened with a 3-2 victory over Brantford. Sam Turner notched the first two goals with Jordan Tessmer picking up the third while short handed. Jared James was solid between the pipes while Nathan Cook and Joey Cassone had strong games defensively. Stratford went on to shut out Hamilton 2-0 in a spirited affair improving their record to 2 and 0. Turner added to his totals with 2 more goals while Jacob Taylor and Aaron Skinner helped to shut down their opponent. Jeremy Hill was perfect in net earning the shut out. Noah Trudgeon and Brett Stelmachuk were strong on the forecheck. In the 3rd game the Warriors met league rival London Bandits. Stratford got out to a 2 goal lead when Tessmer scored off a one timer on the powerplay and Liam Taylor found the back of the net off a perfect pass from Tyler Anderson. Although London would manage to climb back in the game and earn a 2-2 tie the Warrior record would be good enough to push them through to the final. In the final Stratford would play Hamilton once again. The teams exchanged scoring opportunities but the game would remain scoreless into the 3rd period. Strong play by Jeremy Hill in net and Declan Rintoul on defence helped to keep the game scoreless. Anderson and Riley Higgins continued to apply pressure in the offensive zone. Turner would break the tie when he notched his 5th goal of the tournament off a scramble in front of the net. Luke McCarroll gave Stratford what seemed to be a certain victory when he scored in close. Hamilton would respond however before Liam Taylor scored the eventual winner into the empty net. Hamilton would score one more but time would run out on their comeback and the Warriors earned their championship with a 3-2 victory!
