The Stratford Police Service was kept busy during the city’s first blast of winter.

Police responded to five motor vehicle accidents between 5:30pm and 9:30pm.

As a result of these accidents related to the snowfall, several people suffered minor injuries and damage to vehicles ranged from $1500 to $20000.

In one crash, just before 6:30pm, a marked cruiser was diverting traffic and protecting other officers who were investigating an accident that had already occurred at Erie Street and Packham Road.  Traffic was being diverted down Line 29.  The officer had all of his emergency lighting activated when a vehicle travelling southbound on Erie Street drove into the cruiser while the officer was in the cruiser.

The female driver and male passenger were on their way to the hospital when the accident occurred.  It is not believed at this time that they suffered any injuries as a result of the accident.

The officer suffered very minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

The investigation continues, and charges are pending.
