Stratford Labour Council Responds to Bill C-377

E-mail Print PDF

The Stratford & District Labour Council says a new federal Conservative private member's bill imposes a double standard on unions and a tax burden on Canadians.

The bill was introduced by MP Russ Hiebert and it would obligate unions to publicly disclose all financial transactions.

The proposed legislation is now backed by the Prime Minister's Office.

Stratford Labour Council President Dave Jasper says the bill may very well be about accountability but organized labour is the only group being targeted.

The Canada Revenue Agency also predicts the legislation, if passed, would cost taxpayers $10.6 million in start up costs and $2.1 million to administer every year.
