Police Keeping Busy During Road Safety Week

The Perth County OPP keeps nabbing dangerous drivers.

Police in our area have ramped up enforcement of the traffic laws for Canada Road Safety Week.

Last night in St. Marys police pulled a driver over for talking on a cell phone, only to discover the driver didn't have a license.

Further checks showed the vehicle was also uninsured, and that the driver is not supposed to be operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device.

At around 10:30pm last night an OPP officer pulled over a Honda Civic going 140 km/h on Highway 7 near Wildwood Park.

The 19-year-old driver had his license seized and his vehicle towed.

Remember police all over the province will be out in force this weekend keeping an eye out for impaired driving, aggressive driving, distracted driving and seat belt violations, which are the "Big Four" causes of death and injuries on our roadways.

Police Continue Search for Body of Catherine Todd

Waterloo Regional Police are continuing the search for the body of Catherine Todd.

Todd has been missing since March 21st.

26-year-old James Solomon Parise has been accused of second degree murder in Todd's death.

Parise grew up in Stratford.

An exhaustive search of a Waterloo regional landfill turned up no sign of Todd's remains.

Police, after consulting with Todd's family, have broken off the search.

Parise's next court appearance is on May 22nd.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Catherine Todd continues.

Canada Road Safety Week Enforcement Pays Off

The Perth County OPP has teamed up with police from across the province to enforce highway safety week.

Their efforts have already paid off.

On Thursday, shortly after 1:00pm, an officer on patrol stopped a speeding eastbound Pontiac Sunfire on Highway 7/8 east of Shakespeare.

The driver failed a roadside breath test and subsequent Intoxilyzer breath tests at the Sebringville OPP detachment.

The 38-year-old New Hamburg woman has been charged.

She also lost her licence for 90 days her vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Utility Trailer Stolen in West Perth

A utility trailer was stolen in West Perth on Wednesday.

The Perth County OPP was called to a rural residence on Line 26 east of Highway 23.

The trailer was stolen sometime between 10:00am and 1:00pm on May 15th.

It's described as a 1979 Home-made utility trailer with an Ontario Licence plate of F55 98Y.

The trailer is dark grey with checkerboard sides and bed.

Metal rings are located along the sides for tying down items during transport.

At the time of the theft, an aluminum truck topper was tied to the bed of the trailer.

Pints, Politics & Passion Saturday at Queen’s Inn

Saturday evening in Stratford will feature Pints, Politics & Passion at the Queen’s Inn.

With a provincial election possible, the Perth-Wellington NDP has organized a fundraising social and auction for tomorrow at 7:00pm.

There will be tea and coffee for some and a cash bar for others. Admission is ten dollars at the door.

The local New Democrats will also launch a new fundraising/team building program called ‘Share your Passion’.

Earring making, a chauffeur service, two sets of cooking classes to learn German or Greek traditional dishes, bird watching, star gazing, and arts classes are some of the things that will be up for sale for twenty dollars each.

All are welcome to attend.
